| Programs Job Opening: Director of Public Policy
Job Summary:
The person in this position is responsible for representing RCRC, its multi-faith member organizations, its mission, and its interests as they relate to the federal government, primarily Congress, and state governments. The Director of Public Policy will provide a coordinated approach and a clear and sharp focus to the Coalition’s work as it relates to legislation and advocacy for persons of faith who support reproductive justice. The Director of Public Policy will have solid, integrated, working relationships with all departments and units of the Coalition. The Director of Public Policy reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
Responsibilities:
- Develop relationships with pro-choice congressional caucus members and other key members of Congress;
- Identify opportunities to bring the faith perspective to public policy debates;
- Organize briefings, provide informational materials and develop expert testimony in consultation with other RCRC departments;
- Conduct lobbying activities with Administration officials, members of Congress and Congressional staff;
- Work with Interfaith Outreach Dept. to identify and engage religious leaders for advocacy events and activities to Capitol Hill, Statehouses, and other decision-making bodies;
- Organize, in consultation with other departments, participation with other religious and reproductive justice groups, including strategy meetings and planning sessions on activities such as hearings, rallies, press conferences, etc.;
- In coordination with other departments, train and assist RCRC Affiliates and state partners in organizing state lobbying events, as well as other advocacy and mobilization efforts;
- Track Federal and state legislation, Supreme Court cases, and executive branch issues, including judicial nominations;
- Mobilize grassroots advocacy efforts around legislation, Administrative rulings, ballot initiatives, etc., as may be appropriate;
- Work with Communications Dept. to assume the administration and management of the electronic action network;
- Assist in establishing an advocacy component to each RCRC Program area;
- In consultation with Communications Department, develop materials to assist RCRC supporters in their advocacy efforts;
- In consultation with the Advisory Council, identify and coordinate opportunities for member organizations’ involvement in public policy activities both nationally and at the state level;
- Represent RCRC in various reproductive justice coalitions; and
- Manage and oversee work of Public Policy Associate.
Qualifications:
At least five years of combined experience on the Hill or in a non-profit organization. Skilled in working within coalitions and representing organizational interests. Proven commitment to reproductive justice. Ability to write quickly and concisely for a wide variety of audiences and mediums, including congressional testimony, letters to the editor and factsheets. Even keeled demeanor and ability to be calm under pressure a huge plus. Law or public policy degree required.
