National Black Church Initiative
Second Annual National Sermon Contest Announcement

This contest is sponsored by the National Black Church Initiative, a program of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. Through this contest we hope to create opportunities and inspire preaching that addresses human sexuality and the Black Church.

Sermon Topics
* The Black Church and Domestic Violence
* The Black Church and Sexuality
* The Black Church and Reproductive Justice
*The Black Church and HIV and AIDS

Eligibility
African American ordained Clergy  - sermons preached or developed specifically for this contest.
African American seminarians (ordination not required) – sermons preached or developed specifically for this contest

Rules
Sermons must be the original work of the submitter and must not have been previously published. Copyright belongs to the author/submitter of the sermon. All quotations must be documented. The National Black Initiative will reserve the right to publish and print sermon. In addition winning submissions will be posted on our website. Only one sermon per person will be accepted. Sermons must be double-spaced and provided in both hard copy and electronic Word document form. Include a cover letter with contact information, denominational affiliation and a brief biography. Seminarians should include proof of enrollment in an accredited seminary. Previous winners not eligible to participate.

* Only appropriate subject matters will be considered. We reserve the right to determine what is deemed appropriate for the contest.

Entry and Contest Dates
Currently accepting submissions.  Contest deadline is March 31, 2008.  Award winners will be announced on July 11, 2008 at the National Black Religious Summit on Sexuality held at Howard University Divinity School.

Prizes
 First Place $500.00 Second Place $300.00 Third Place $100.00 The top 3 sermons in each category will be posted on the National Black Church Initiative website and published in an educational resource of the Initiative.
