We clergy members, representing many different religious denominations around the country, pledge our strong support for reproductive choice, which encompasses access to safe, reliable contraception, family planning education, comprehensive sexuality education, affordable and reliable childcare and health care, adoption services, and access to safe, legal, and affordable abortions.

We honor the value and dignity of all human life, but recognize that different religious traditions hold different views regarding when life begins and when ensoulment occurs. Because of these honest disagreements and because we live in a society where all are free to live according to their own consciences and religious beliefs, we do not believe any one religious philosophy should govern the law for all Americans.

Therefore, we sign this statement as members of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice Clergy for Choice Network and pledge to work to educate our congregations, our communities, and our elected officials on the need for our society to respect moral and religious diversity and to uphold the dignity of women as ethical decision makers. We further pledge to work to create a society where every child is welcomed with joy into a family and a community that is equipped to sustain, nurture, and raise up that child in peace and love.
