Generation to Generation
Educational Workshop
My Body, My Rights
Background/Rationale: Many African-American teenage girls experience some form of sexual violence in their everyday lives. All too often they must navigate through an environment in which calling girls by disrespectful names or touching parts of their bodies is viewed as ordinary behavior. This activity is designed to empower girls with the knowledge of what behaviors constitute sexual violence and with the belief that it is their right to live their lives without being sexually violated by another person. This session on sexual violence is an introduction to the broader topic of intimate partner violence including relationship abuse, sexual harassment, and rape.
